Bertha Watson Henry

Community Involvement/Public Service

Mrs. Bertha Watson Henry is a 1973 graduate of Miami Jackson Senior High School.

While a student at Miami Jackson, Mrs. Henry was President of the Anchor Club and a member of the
Honor Society and Debate Club. She was voted Senior Class “Most Dependable” and graduated in the
top 10 percent of her Senior Class.

After graduation from Miami Jackson, Mrs. Henry pursued her college education at Florida State
University. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Government and continued her education at Florida
State University to earn a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Finance.

Mrs. Henry’s professional career has been concentrated in public service. In the early part of her
career, she served as Director of the Office of Management and Budget in Ohio. She also served as Assistant City Manager in Ohio. She returned to Florida and continued in public service where she
served as Assistant to the County Administrator in Broward County, Assistant City Manager, City of
Miami and Deputy County Administrator, Broward County. She currently serves as County
Administrator, Broward County, in the role of Chief Executive Officer of Broward County’s nearly 60
agencies oversees 6.200 employees and an annual budget of $4.7 billion.

Mrs. Henry has earned numerous awards during her illustrious public service career. Some of which
are Broward Women’s Hall of Fame, South Florida’s Most Powerful and Influential Black Professionals in
Business and Industry and, most recently, the International City/County Management Association,
2017 Mark E. Keane Memorial Award for Excellence for being the first African-American woman to
receive this award.

She is a member of the Links, Incorporated and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, both with several public service initiatives.

Mrs. Henry is married to Bobby Henry Sr., publisher of the Westside Gazette in Fort Lauderdale. They
are the proud parents of two sons.
