Picnic

Get ready to come out and enjoy a day in the park as the alumni association is in the process of planning a picnic. We are excited to plan an event for all to enjoy with family, friends, and classmates. The picnic is set for Saturday, June 17th at Charles Hadley Park in Miami.

Registration is now open. Tickets are available for $20 per adult, $10 for children 6-7 years old, and FREE for infants 5 and under.

Miguel de la O

Justice

The Honorable Miguel de la O is a 1982 graduate of Miami Jackson Senior High School.

While a student at Miami Jackson, he was a member of the Debate Team and the National Honor Society.
He was voted “Most Likely to Succeed.”.

He pursued higher education at Florida State University where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s
Degree in Criminology and Political Science. In college, he continued his interest in “debate” and won
Second Place in the National Debate Tournament. After earning an undergraduate degree, he continued
with graduate studies at Florida State University School of Law. He earned a law degree, with high honors,
in 1989.

During his career in law, Judge de la O has received numerous awards. He was named, “Florida Legal Elite” nine (9) consecutive years by Florida Trend Magazine, 2004-2012, “Florida Super Lawyer” seven (7) consecutive years by Law & Politics magazine, 2007-2013, “Best of the Bar” by the South Florida Business Journal, 2005. He was also honored with Union Planters’ Young Hispanic Leadership Award, in 2004 and recognized as “Boss of the Year” by Miami-Dade Legal Support Association, in 2004.

Judge de la O was elected Circuit Judge in 2013. He serves as Administrative Judge for Circuit Appeals

Ike Woods Jr

Entrepreneurship

Mr. Isaac “Ike” Woods, Jr. is a 1970 graduate of Miami Jackson Senior High School.

While a student at Miami Jackson, he was member of the Interact Club, Drama Club, Senior Band, Crysalic Club and Photography Club. He was selected by his Senior Class as a Senior Superlative – Friendliest (Male).

He earned an Associate’s Degree in Business from Miami-Dade Jr. College (name at that time) and a Bachelor’s Degree from Barry University.

Mr. Woods was employed with the American Express Corporation for 35 years. He served in the positions of Customer Service Representative, Executive Assistant and Credit Analyst.

In addition to his exemplary career with the American Express Corporation, he also owned and operated “Photos by Ike”, a professional photography business. For over 30 years, he has been dedicated to his business. As a testimony to his skills, he earned a Certificate of Photography from the University of Miami. He served as “Press Photographer” for President Bill Clinton’s Presidential Visit to Miami-Dade College in 1996 and “Press Photographer” for President Barack Obama’s Presidential Visit to the City of Miami, in 2009. He has served as the “Official Photographer” for Larry Little Legends Golf Classic, The Links Incorporated, Greater Miami (FL) Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Dade County Alumnae Chapter and NAACP, Miami-Dade Branch and, in some, continues to serve.

For his professionalism in photography, Mr. Woods has been recognized by the MiamiDade County, Office of the Mayor and Board of County Commissioners – Isaac “Ike” Woods, Jr. Day, April 13, 2001. He also received a Carrie P. Meek, Member of Congress, Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition, March 29, 2002.

Mr. Woods is a consistent contributor to community programs. Such as, Big Brother/ Big Sister, Kids in Crisis, Carol City Park – Lady Ravens (Cheerleaders), Bunche Park -05 lb. Football Team, just to name a few.

He currently serves as President of the Miami Jackson Alumni Class of 1970.

Dr. Rubin Thompson

Health Awareness

Mr. Rubin Thompson, Doctor of Chiropractic, is a 1974 graduate of Miami Jackson Senior High School.

While a student at Miami Jackson, he was President of the Future Scientist of America Club, a drummer in the marching band, and a “Sweetheart” of the Jr. Miss club.

He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Bethune-Cookman College (now University) and a Doctor of Chiropractic Degree from the Palmer College of Chiropractic.

Dr. Thompson currently is a practicing Chiropractor in Miami. He previously served in his field in the state of Louisiana and Nassau, Bahamas.

In his career, he has developed a treatment to lessen the severity of asthma, flu, and sinus conditions. His research projects include wound healing before amputation, Psoriasis, food allergies, before and after stroke rehabilitation, torticollis and tortipelvis, fingernails, toenails, and tongue abnormalities, Scoliosis, and partially torn Achilles rehab without surgery, just to name a few.

He has received special recognitions from The Clinic Masters–Prix De Service Distinguished Humanitarian, Northside Optimist Club–Certificate of Appreciation, American Chiropractic Association–Valuable Contributions to the Region, Certificate of Appreciation, Bethune-Cookman College (now University) and Miami Jackson Senior High, Outstanding Support to the Academy of Health Science, Certificate of
Appreciation.

Tammi-King-Miller

Entrepreneurship

Mrs. Tammi King-Miller is a 1979 graduate of Miami Jackson Senior High School.

While a student at Miami Jackson, she enrolled in the OJT (On the Job Training) Program and was gainfully employed. This laid the foundation for her subsequent desire to become an entrepreneur.

She attended Miami-Dade College where she earned her Associate’s Degree in Business Management.
Mrs. King-Miller was employed with the City of Miami for 27 years as an Administrative Assistant. She retired in 2006. After retirement, she began her first business 2007, in the field of accounting. It was called the Tax Doctor. Her success at the first office, led her to open a second office, three (3) years ago in the Fort Lauderdale area.

She is quietly active in the community and does not seek accolades. She has donated time, products, and monies to various Optimist football teams in the City, churches, and Girl Scouts of America. Recently, she gave financial support to hurricane victims in South Miami and Puerto Rico.

She gives back to the community free from her heart.

Rennina Turner

Mrs. Rennina Taylor Turner is a 1986 graduate of Miami Jackson Senior High School.

While a student at Miami Jackson, she was member of the Civitan Service Club, Old Hickory Yearbook staff, member of the Newspaper staff and served on the Speech & Debate Team.

Mrs. Turner pursued her higher education at Tuskegee University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English.

She chose teaching as a career and began at Maritime and Science Technology (MAST) Academy where she was honored as the Sallie Mae Beginning Teacher of the Year. During her career, she has served at Miami Northwestern Sr. High School as a Speech and Debate teacher and sponsor and at Booker T. Washington as the Department Head of Language Arts.

Her desire to motivate students lead her to pursue school administration and she continued her education to earn a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership at Barry University.

Mrs. Turner began her career in school administration as an Assistant Principal at Miami Central Senior High School. After serving in that role for three (3) years, she was appointed as Principal, Miami Central Senior High School. As Principal of Miami Central Sr. High she had the honor of hosting and meeting President Barack Obama. Former President Obama kicked off his Education tour and acknowledged the success of the faculty, staff and students for the “turn-around” work taking place at a school once deemed the lowest performing school in the state of Florida. She also served as Principal of Andover Middle School and was nominated by her peers to represent the Norland Feeder Pattern as the Miami Norland Feeder Pattern Principal of the Year (2015-2016).

Mrs. Turner currently serves a Principal of Miami Jackson Senior High School and has been nominated by peers to represent the Miami Jackson Feeder Pattern as the Miami Jackson Feeder Pattern Principal of the Year (2017-2018)

Mrs. Turner met her husband, Reggie Turner, Miami Jackson Class of 1987, at Miami Jackson. They are the
proud parents of Reggie, Jr., Amani and Ryan. Reggie, Jr. attended and graduated from Miami Jackson in the Class of 2015.

Rev. Dr. Anthony Tate

Reverend Dr. Anthony Tate is a 1977 graduate of Miami Jackson Senior High School.

While a student at Miami Jackson, he was a peer counselor. Additionally, he was enrolled in the OJT
(On the Job Training) Program and was gainfully employed as a file clerk at Youth Hall.

After graduation from high school, Rev. Tate entered the Army Branch of the United States Military where he served from 1978 until 1984. While in the military he held the positions of Military Police Officer, Patrol
Supervisor and Desk SGI.

After leaving the military, Rev. Tate’s life’s path led him to ministry. He attended Bible College and received a Bachelor’s Degree. Seeking to further his knowledge for ministry, he attended Jacksonville Theological Seminary where he earned a Master’s Degree and a Doctor of Ministry Degree.

With this strong education foundation, he accepted the “call” to Pastor and is currently the Pastor of New
Resurrection Community Church, a “call” he has honored since 2008.

Rev. Tate says that he strives, “to be an energetic and a positive mouthpiece as a dedicated Pastor, Community Activist and Leader for the people in the community to make everlasting contributions that will build and enhance their lifestyle continually.”

To achieve this goal, in addition to serving as Pastor, Rev. Tate is presently a Board Member of the Community Youth Against Violence, a member of the Miami-Dade Branch of NAACP where he serves as C0-Chair of Religious Affairs and a member of the Circle of Brotherhood, where he serves as Executive Secretary. He also serves as a mentor for the 5000 Role Model Program and as Chaplain for the Division of Juvenile Justice. He is a former President of People United Leading the Struggle for Equality (P.U.L.S.E.)

Debra Reddick

Ms. Debra Mason Reddick is a 1967 graduate of Miami Jackson Senior High School.

While a student at Miami Jackson, she was a member of the Thespians (Drama Club). She was stage manager and house manager for many productions, including “A Raisin in the Sun.” She was a member
of the Modern Dance Club and the Library Science Future Librarians.

Ms. Reddick returned to Miami-Jackson in 1999 as an employee and has continued until present in the
position of Exceptional Student Education (ESE)/Emotional Behavioral Disabilities (EBD) Paraprofessional. In this role, she has touched the lives of many Miami Jackson students. She has served as the Key Club Advisor and Junior Civitan Advisor. She has also served as an assistant Facilitator for the Big Brother Big Sister initiative targeting Miami Jackson students.

Her commitment to the students at Miami-Jackson was the catalyst for her role as PTSA President, PTSA Vice President, and Band Parent President. Her professional expertise has resulted in her roles as Educational Excellence School Advisory Council (EESAC) Chairperson, a United Teachers of Dade (UTD)
Designated Steward, 2010 Steward of the Year, Finalist for the Steward of the Year in 2012, 2013, and 2015, Co-chair of the UTD/MDCPS Paraprofessional/Support Personnel of the Year District Task Force and member of the Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year Committee.

Ms. Reddick cites “making a difference in the lives of the students at Miami Jackson” as one of her greatest professional accomplishments.

She is a Founding and Charter Member of the Miami Jackson Generals Alumni Association

Ronetta Taylor

Ms. Ronetta Williams Taylor is a 1972 graduate of Miami Jackson Senior High School.

While a student at Miami Jackson, she served faithfully in the Miami Jackson Red Cross
Committee.

Ms. Taylor obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from Barry University.

Ms. Taylor has over 35 years of municipal service, with 28 years as a Municipal Clerk where she has served in Opa-Locka, South Miami and Miami Gardens. She is currently the City Clerk for the City of Miami Gardens, an appointed position, that she has held since 2003. She has the distinction of being the first official employee of the City of Miami Gardens.

Ms. Taylor also has the distinction of being the first African American in Miami–Dade County to receive the prestigious Master Municipal Clerk certification, which she attained in 2008. She was number 54 in the entire State of Florida of a total of 500 plus Municipal Clerks. This placed her in the top ten (10%) percentile.

She is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and a member of the Florida Association of City Clerks. As a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, she was appointed to the Municipal Clerk’s Mentoring Board. As a member of the Florida Association of city Clerks, she was appointed to the Manual Revision Committee for two terms and appointed a Chair of the Membership Committee.

Ms. Taylor was recognized in 2015 by Legacy Magazine as one of 25 Most Influential and Prominent Black
women in South Florida in Business and Leadership.

Brian Person

Community Involvement/Public Service

Mr. Brian Person is a 1977 graduate of Miami Jackson Senior High School.
While a student at Miami Jackson, he was Offensive Captain, Jr. Varsity Football Team and served as a member of the Civitan Club.

Mr. Person earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Miami-Dade Jr. College and a Bachelor’s
Degree from Barry University with a concentration in Behavioral Science.

He chose Social Work as his profession.

Mr. Person has been involved with the community. He is presently a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami where he has served since 1996 and honored as Big Brother of the year in 1998. He serves on the Fatherhood Task Force of South Florida and was honored as the Most Valuable Father in 2017. Additionally, he serves the community through the Mahogany Youth Corporation where he is an Executive Board Member. He previously was Vice President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Miami and was Co-Chair of the organization, Not One More Coalition, Against Gun Violence.

Mr. Person has had direct contact with the students at Miami Jackson as an Assistant Softball Coach, Head Coach Girls Jr. Varsity Basketball and conducted a Teen Dating Violence, six-week program through the PAIIRS (Preventing Abuse in Intimate Relationships) Program. He was instrumental in Miami Jackson Senior High School’s participation in the Big Brother Big Sister School-To-Work Program, where students receive workplace/professional mentoring.

Mr. Person was a talk-host personality from 2005-2017 at AM 1490 WMBM, Brother 2 Brother Radio Show.
