Freddie Woodson

In the mid 1990's, an alumni association for Miami Jackson was the brainchild of Dr. Freddie Woodson, who was the Principal at that time. In pursuing this "vision", he solicited the assistance of Dr. Venita Timpson, Miami Jackson graduate of 1968 and, at tha time, the Activities Director at Miami Jackson. To bring the "vision" to reality, Dr. Timpson solicited assistance from among Miam Jackson alumni which resulted in Ms. Whitehead-Sutton "answering the call" with passion and enthusiasm for the task at hand. That passion and enthusiasm earned her the position of the first President of the Miami Jackson Generals Alumni Association, Inc.

She was committed to her position of President. She sacrificed her time to attend numerous meetings regarding boundary change for Miami Jackson to ensure that the voice of the Alumni Association was heard. She also led the Miami Jackson Generals Alumni Association, Inc. in challenging the recommended closure of Allapattah Middle School. which is a feeder school in Miami Jackson. That challenge contributed to the abandonment of plans for the school's closure. She was instrumental in obtaining the protection trademark, "SOUL BOWL" which is the name assigned to the annual football competition between Miami Jackson Sr. High School and its rival -- Miami Northwestern Sr. High School. She was the creator of the first Miami Jackson Generals Alumni Newsletter.
